BBC Decides Against Showing Programme about Former Non Dom Lord Ashcroft

Lord Ashcroft, the man who used to be a non dom and who donated money to the Tory party, was the subject of a new BBC programme that was due to be shown on the 27th September. However the programme was never shown after the peer responded to certain questions directed at him. The response took the form of a letter that meant the programme makers pulled back from showing the programme. They stated it was now being reviewed.

Lord Ashcroft has not been far from the news in recent months. This has been mainly due to his non dom status and his role supporting the Tory party in various ways. I was looking forward to reviewing the programme but it seems I will have to wait. At the moment there is no news or guarantee that the programme will see the light of day. It could be that Lord Ashcroft’s response to the questions asked of him will render the programme unable to be shown. It all depends on the questions and the answers – and those seem to be known only by the programme makers and Lord Ashcroft himself.

It could be that we never see the contents of the programme. But if they are deemed to now be worthless or inaccurate we would not have a programme worth watching anyway.

In either case we will be unlikely to see Lord Ashcroft returning to relative obscurity. His former non dom status is still producing headlines and looks set to continue doing so.
