Statutory Services to be Reviewed in South Yorkshire as Wave of Cuts is Due to Begin

I was intrigued to hear that they plan to consult the public on where the best places are to make such cuts.  No decision making process will be easy in this situation, but I think it is encouraging to see they are not just going ahead with their own ideas for saving money.  By consulting the public they can hope to keep them on board during what will be a very difficult time.

Statutory services are required by law to be provided by all councils.  But Sheffield Council – in common with many others up and down the country – is looking at these as well.  It could well be that cut backs will need to be put in place with these services too.

I think the majority of people realise that tough decisions will need to be made in order to save the required money.  By consulting with the public Sheffield Council will be getting them on their side rather than shutting them out.
